A new study published in Frontiers in Veterinary Medicine suggests that CBD may help alleviate symptoms of THC toxicity in dogs. Researchers from Florida examined six cases of accidental THC exposure in dogs, with five treated using dissolvable CBD sheets applied to their gums. Symptoms improved within an hour for most cases, and three dogs fully recovered within 28 hours.
The study highlights CBD's potential as a low-cost and minimally invasive treatment for THC toxicosis, with costs significantly lower than traditional treatments. However, the researchers acknowledged that some recoveries might have occurred naturally over time. This research adds to the growing body of evidence exploring the interaction between cannabinoids like CBD and THC in both humans and animals.
CBD's popularity among pet owners continues to rise, with studies showing its safety and benefits for various conditions in dogs, including anxiety, arthritis, and seizures. This latest research may pave the way for broader veterinary applications of cannabinoid-based treatments.
